June/July Patreon Update
First off, thank you to all of the new backers! Make sure you’ve signed up for the mailing list so that I can keep in touch with you regarding the voting and podcasts: http://www.staresattheworld.com/patreon-backer-page/
As you may have noticed, I’ve been running a bit behind; between a shakeup in my living situation, and the ongoing trouble from YouTube, my content production has been falling behind.
Episode 2 of In Depth Analysis will be “The Broken Love Lives of Star Trek the Next Generation”; I’m cleaning up the facts/names on the script tonight, and then it’s just a matter of recording the audio and assembling the footage. It should be a good mix of comedy and a dark analysis of Gene Roddenberry’s “Utopia” that we’ve all been living in; should be up next week.
Because I’ve been running behind, I’ll be doing two videos this month. Everyone who’s registered on the mailing list (and is donating $5 or more) will receive a link to the poll. The options this month will be:
- The Cluster B Personality Disorders, updated & Improved
- The Marxist Roots of Neoconservatism
- Neoatheism’s Decline into Atheism+
- Psychology: illnesses without etiology, a house built on sand
Prior to the Star Trek video, however, will be my review of 1993’s Tombstone; technically a requested video, but the film was such a masterpiece that I decided to go all out with the video. It’s been finished for a while, but I haven’t had anywhere to upload it.
Regarding my plans with YouTube: given their hostility and lack of accountability, I’ve decided to register a backup account on Daily Motion; you can easily register using your current YouTube/Google account for purposes of subscribing and commenting. Note that Aaron Clarey also has a backup channel there.
For the In Depth Analysis videos, however, I plan to start using Vimeo (note: they WILL be free to watch). The reason for this is that the videos I upload there are a different sort of animal from my regular, “talk to the camera” vlogs. For one thing, they’re higher quality; for another, they’re less politically divisive. YouTube tends towards partisan politics and personality conflicts. With the In Depth Analysis videos, I’ll be further away from the camera, and there’s potential to reach out to a new audience; the site’s a midpoint between NetFlix and YouTube, it’s got a unique sort of audience.
Of course, I’ll be posting notifications on YouTube/DailyMotion as well as on here, so there’s no need for you folks to set up an account there.
I appreciate the patience, everybody, and I ask for just a wee bit more leeway as I settle in to the new location (I’m working on the desk situation; I need somewhere to work that isn’t a coffee shop; the guitar player’s great, but I’d prefer silence).
Over the next week you’ll be seeing both the Tombstone Review, and the Star Trek analysis on Vimeo, and the poll for the next two videos will be emailed to you tomorrow.
Thank you!
