Much Ado About Nuttin’

I suppose I might as well post something about Alexandra Wallace, the UCLA student who posted a video ranting about Asians (Hat Tip to Not Ryan Faulk for the link).

You know, there’s something that I’ve been wondering lately – were any Asians actually offended by the video?

Now I’m not talking about those jokesters on YouTube, who will whine pedantically about any bit of news they can glom on to (I’m only pedantic about things that actually interest me) – no, I’m talking about the real people with their feet on the ground, the Asians who are students at UCLA.

My guess is that they’re still attending classes.

Another question – which Not Ryan Faulk also brings up – is anyone disputing that the things she says are true?  Christ, I love Asians, never would have learned Mandarin if I didn’t like them, but her characterizations (aka stereotyping) seem pretty bang-on to me.  In fact, I’ll bet that if North Americans actually bothered to tell them that these habits were sometimes irritating or offensive that most of them would lay off.

Only problem is that, if you do try and tell them, then you’ll end up getting death threats for being a ‘racist’ and having to drop out of UCLA.

Also, note: it’s implied at the beginning of her video that she has Asian friends: (“Dont take this personally you guys”).

Didn’t we learn from the Chocolate Rain?  The Star Wars kid?  That poor girl who sharted herself in a hot tub?  Sure, I think Wallace is an idiot, but I feel that way about most people.  She don’t seem no worse than most of the creatures I deal with on a daily basis.

So can we maybe just leave the poor girl alone?
