Update on the Short Film

Sorry that posting and videos have been light for the past couple weeks; I’ve had one thing taking up my time, and that’s the short film Lust in the Time of Heartache that I’m producing for the Telus corporation.

We started filming on Friday, and should be done by the end of today.  Here are some of the photos from the stunt work we did yesterday.  It’s been an endless series of headaches, of course, but it’s all starting to come together…

Next week I’m editing, editing, editing – but after that we should be back to our regular schedule.

That’s Spencer from Shrednecks who’s denting the Stinkmobile – great guy.

I knew you were filming since there were some roads closed downtown Friday and it seemed busier driving around today, too.

This seems good. I like how it looks. It looks promising.

But why this corner or perspective?
I think that the camera should have been more to the right, so you could see the sunset, and when the car came, you would get a bit of surprise because the car would come from the perspective of the viewer and unepected.

Are these weapons what they have in their arm? I think that is not the way you cary them. The characters seem not know how to use them. I am a newbie and have never shot anything, but do you pay attention to detail? Like the way they carry the weapons?

Just wanted to a piece of my mind in this. Carry on! Cant wait to see the short movie :)

Kvothe, they’re a pair of sais and a bokun; they’re being gripped by the hand-holds while running.

I’ve studied karate for years, and I was the least experienced martial artist we had on set, and on top of that we had an experienced combat choreographer. The weapons are being used properly.

As for the composition, I was the producer and lead actor, not the director; that would be my partner. I haven’t reviewed all of the footage yet, but I know him and I trust his work, and I wasn’t about to put my dick in his soup. He has reasons for the angles he chooses.

    Oh, thanks for the response!

For a sec I thought you were going to be think of me being a troll! These things just popped in my head when I saw the pictures..
Thats nice to hear! I like when everything on screen is put on purpose. Do you think of releasing a “documentary” about how the movie was made? Any interviews in plan? Any commentary about the movie?

    Thanks for answering!

Saw on Facebook that you had commented that an abusive mother had probably enjoyed circumcising her son. I’m a little perplexed. Being American and, as the laws of probability dictate, circumcised myself, I’ve never considered infant circumcision to be a big deal. Cut, uncut, a penis is still a penis. I’ve never quite understood the hullabaloo about “his penis, his choice”; seems like sublimation of deeper issues of resenting parents for an upbringing the man resents. And hasn’t research shown that there are indeed medical benefits to getting circumcised, such as reducing chances of HIV infection?

Or are you suggesting that the woman relished the potential for the doctor to emasculate her son?

@Sean, I’ll be writing a post on the topic, I’ll save my thoughts until then.

Looks like filming must have been fun! Looks like you’re holding the sais just fine, particularly for falling w/ them and doing a chase scene. I’m a martial arts instructor, and weapons are my specialty. :) The movie sounds awesome!
